Reservation Lifecycle
Statuses, transitions and what holds stock
A reservation always has one of six statuses.
| Status | Meaning | Holds stock |
|---|---|---|
requested | Asked for, not yet answered | No |
confirmed | Accepted by the company | Yes |
rented | Items handed over | Yes |
returned | Items back; units wait in the first return stage, or are ready at once without stages | No |
declined | Refused by the company | No |
cancelled | Withdrawn | No |
Transitions
requested → confirmed | declined | cancelled
confirmed → rented | cancelled
rented → returned
returned, declined, cancelled: final
Any other change is rejected. Confirming re-checks that enough units are ready right now.
The units of a confirmed or rented reservation are subtracted from the ready count; once returned they pass through the
company's return stages (if any) in order before becoming ready again.
